Meet James Simpson
What led you to a career at Duratec?
“After 20 years working in recruitment for the mining, energy and industrial sectors I wanted to bring my network of contacts to a service provider working across these sectors and move away from personnel resourcing.”
How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?
“As a Business Development Manager, I’m not directly involved in helping clients safeguard and extend asset infrastructure. However, as a client facing representative of Duratec I’m here to help clients navigate their project requirements and find the right hands-on approach to solving their complex end-to-end asset remediation and protection solutions, often in challenging environments.”
What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?
“Delivering over 300 technical personnel for the Shell Prelude and INPEX Ichthys projects simultaneously across South Korea and the North-West Shelf.”
What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?
“The collaborative atmosphere between departments and teams, as well as the variety of industries we operate in. From defence, mining, and energy, to infrastructure, heritage, and building and facades – Duratec does it all. It’s so varied and that’s what I love about it. I could be on a tour of a mine site in the Goldfields one day, and then onto a heritage building in the city the next.”
What have you learned during your time at Duratec and what has inspired you?
“Traveling to various work sites for our clients, it gives you a real firsthand perspective of the scale we can deliver projects.”
What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
“Be open to a variety of opportunities, and experience as much as you can at the beginning of your career. It will enable you to work well with a variety of people from different backgrounds.”
