Australia’s oldest continuously operating professional
observatory, the Perth Observatory in Bickley, has
undergone a major makeover.

Details

The main telescope structure houses a dome 12.2 metres high on top of its supporting concrete base. Over the past 30 years, the sun fins and fin walls had developed corrosion and concrete deterioration. Duratec was tasked to survey and repair these areas.

Using a combination of scaffold and EWP access, the technical division meticulously performed a complete inspection of the structure and identified the areas of concern. These were subsequently repaired and a protective coating applied.

The eight week project ensures the longevity of the structure for many more years to come.

Highlights

  • The required repairs followed strict guidelines as the Perth Observatory is a heritage listed building.
  • The project was completed within a tight time frame.
  • There were no safety incidents and the local pristine natural bush environment was left untouched.

Capabilities

  • Concrete Repair
  • Preservation of Heritage Structures
