Meet Scott Gaebler
What led you to a career at Duratec?
“My connection with Duratec goes back many years. I previously worked for Savcor around 20 years ago in Kalgoorlie before moving into the sales of protective coatings, where I spent 14 years supporting customers across Western Australia’s North West mining and energy sectors.
During that time, Duratec was one of my key accounts and always a great customer to work with. I had developed a strong respect for the leadership team, so when an opportunity arose through a timely phone call with Greg Morris to join the business in a business development role, it was an easy decision to make.”
How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?
“My role is focused on supporting our local operations teams in Karratha and Port Hedland to identify and secure new opportunities. By connecting clients with Duratec’s broad range of asset remediation and protection services, I help ensure critical infrastructure receives the maintenance, upgrades and protection required to remain safe, reliable and operational for longer.”
What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?
“One of my greatest professional achievements was completing both an MBA and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Company Directors Course.
These qualifications strengthened my leadership and governance capabilities and enabled me to make a more meaningful contribution as a board member of the Australasian Corrosion Association. The experience has enhanced both my professional development and my ability to support industry initiatives that address the long-term challenges of corrosion management.”
What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?
“The people and the culture. It’s refreshing to work in an organisation where people genuinely enjoy what they do and take pride in their work.
I’m also impressed by the breadth of solutions Duratec can offer under one banner. The ability to deliver integrated services provides significant value to our customers and makes every day interesting.”
What have you learned during your time at Duratec / what has inspired you?
“I’ve been inspired by the passion, intelligence and strong work ethic consistently demonstrated by the teams I’ve worked alongside. It’s clear that people across the business are committed to achieving great outcomes while supporting one another.
I’ve also enjoyed seeing Duratec’s commitment to developing future talent through initiatives such as the Certificate III training program. Attending pre-start meetings and witnessing the enthusiasm and genuine commitment to safety shown by our teams each day reinforces the positive culture that exists throughout the business.”
What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
“Keep an open mind, continue learning and take opportunities as they arise. Investing in your own development through training and professional growth can open doors you may never have anticipated.
The corrosion industry alone offers a wide range of career pathways. Research suggests corrosion-related inspection, maintenance and remediation activities account for approximately 4.3% of Australia’s GDP, highlighting the ongoing importance of protecting and maintaining critical infrastructure. It’s an industry that will continue to create opportunities for those willing to learn and grow. “
