Remediating a critical tunnel asset supporting Port Hedland operations
Duratec has been engaged by BHP to deliver concrete remediation and structural repair works to the Under Harbour Tunnel (UHT) at Port Hedland, a critical asset supporting the safe and efficient operation of one of Australia’s busiest bulk export ports.
Following detailed inspections, Duratec developed a staged remediation program to address deteriorated areas of the structure and extend its operational service life. The works include environmental controls, electrical and power system upgrades, installation of temporary support infrastructure, access and preparatory works, and targeted concrete remediation and structural repairs.
Delivered within a constrained operational environment, the project demands careful planning and coordination to maintain safe access while minimising disruption to port operations. Phase 1 of the program has been successfully completed, encompassing enabling works and initial repairs, while Phase 2 is progressing through a series of planned shutdowns to deliver critical remediation activities and support the long-term integrity of this important piece of port infrastructure.
