What led you to a career at Duratec?

“I’ve spent most of my career in construction, infrastructure and project management, working across the civil, water, Defence, mining and government sectors. I joined Duratec in 2018 because I saw an opportunity to grow my career and challenge myself in new ways. The business was expanding, the projects were diverse and it felt like a place where I could learn, contribute and make a genuine impact.

Since then, I’ve worked across a broad range of sectors, taken on increasing levels of responsibility and helped grow our Southern NSW, ACT and NT operations. I’ve also had the opportunity to work alongside some great people who have supported my development. At Duratec, you’re always learning. Whether it’s a major water infrastructure upgrade in a remote community, a Defence project or a business growth opportunity, every day brings a different challenge
.”

How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?

“My role is focused on growing the business, supporting our teams, building strong client relationships and helping deliver projects that make a meaningful difference across the Territory. We work on a wide range of infrastructure, from water and utilities to Defence and government assets. My job is to make sure we have the right people, planning and approach in place to deliver successful outcomes for our clients. I enjoy seeing a project progress from the early discussions through to completion, knowing we’ve solved a problem, improved an asset or helped a client achieve their objectives.“

What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?

“One of my biggest professional achievements has been successfully delivering complex projects across a range of sectors while building strong, long-term relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders. No two projects are the same. Each brings its own technical, commercial and operational challenges, particularly in remote locations or high-profile environments.

Looking back, I’m most proud of the relationships built along the way. Many of the people I’ve worked with over the years remain trusted partners today. To me, that reflects the importance of delivering on your commitments and working collaboratively through challenges.“

What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?

“What I enjoy most is the opportunity to keep learning and challenging myself. We work across a diverse range of projects, clients and industries, so there’s always something new to tackle. I enjoy working with our teams to solve problems, strengthen relationships and develop practical solutions for our clients. I also value the people. I’ve been fortunate to work with some great colleagues and clients over the years, and many of those relationships have continued well beyond individual projects.”

What have you learned during your time at Duratec and what has inspired you?

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned at Duratec is the importance of being adaptable. As the business grows, new opportunities and challenges arise, and the ability to adjust, learn and keep moving forward is critical. I’ve also learned that successful outcomes are rarely achieved by individuals alone. The best results come from strong teams, good relationships and people working towards a shared goal.

What has inspired me most is the calibre of people across the business and their willingness to step up, take ownership and back themselves. Working with people who are driven, capable and always looking to improve has encouraged me to keep developing, both professionally and personally. “

What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?

“Don’t be afraid to put your hand up. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career came from taking on roles or responsibilities I wasn’t completely sure I was ready for. You learn a great deal by backing yourself and being willing to give things a go. Work hard, be reliable, ask questions, stay curious and treat people well. Those qualities will take you further than most people realise.”
