Meet Mark McGlone
What led you to a career at Duratec?
“I’ve been with Duratec since its inception in 2010. I previously worked at Savcor with Duratec’s founders, who knew my work ethic and invited me to be part of the new business they were establishing. I initially joined as Business Development Manager in Perth, helping to build connections, secure early work and support project delivery once jobs started coming in. I did whatever was needed, including working on the tools.
Over time, my role and location evolved. I moved to Karratha as a Project Manager and Operations Manager, then to Darwin as Operations Manager, before landing in Townsville where I helped establish Duratec’s first office in North Queensland.”
How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?
“Extending asset life is at the heart of our work. A standout example was Duratec’s first rail project in Karratha, which I managed as Project Manager. It became an important stepping stone for future rail works.
We worked closely with the client, proved ourselves through delivery, and built trust by being proactive and recommending the best way to execute the project. That approach is still central to my role today: working closely with clients to safeguard their assets and solve complex challenges”
What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?
“Being part of Duratec from the beginning is a major professional achievement for me. Helping to jump-start the business, working on our first project at Jundee Mine, and later opening the Townsville branch are all milestones I’m proud of. They each represent different stages of Duratec’s growth and the opportunity I’ve had to help build the business from the ground up.”
What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?
“I enjoy the variety and scope of the work. We operate across a wide range of projects, sectors and locations, which keeps things interesting. No two days are the same, and there is always a new challenge to solve.”
What have you learned during your time at Duratec / what has inspired you?
“I’ve learned the importance of being adaptable to the needs of the business. Over the years, my role has changed across different locations, including Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland, and I’ve adapted my skills to suit each new opportunity and challenge.”
What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
“Don’t be afraid to have a go. Believe in yourself from the beginning, be willing to learn from your mistakes, and keep building your confidence as your career progresses. “
