Meet Nathan Barrett
What led you to a career at Duratec?
“I was born into the business. My father was part of the early iteration of what Duratec is today, when there were just three people working out of the back of someone’s house in the mid-1980s. Since then, I’ve travelled across the world with the team through its different names and structures. I also ran my own small business in Perth for 15 years, which started around the same time as Duratec. Five years ago, I decided I wanted to challenge myself further, which led me back to Duratec.”
How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?
“I’ve been fortunate to learn from some of the key people who helped shape the remediation industry in Australia. In my role, safeguarding and extending assets and infrastructure comes down to maintaining a strong client focus, understanding the problem, and finding practical solutions that achieve the right outcome within the client’s budget.”
What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?
“When I was younger, I made a lot of mistakes. Being able to step away, come back, and earn the respect of my peers has been a huge professional achievement for me. I hope it can also be an inspiration to others who may face similar challenges, showing that it is possible to reset, rebuild, and move forward.”
What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?
“I enjoy the daily challenges and the problem solving that comes with working across so many different clients and sectors. Duratec is also a business where people can meet their career goals if they are willing to work for them, which is something I really value.”

What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
“Stick to the path. Everything won’t happen at once, so use the time you have to learn. If you make a mistake, that’s OK. Accept the detour, take responsibility, and work your way back on track. “
