The heritage listed Hoddle Bridge is a reinforced concrete road bridge that carries Punt Road across the Yarra River from South Yarra and Richmond. It was built in 1937-1938 by the Country Roads Board and designed in consultation with architects/engineers Hughes and Orme.

Duratec was engaged by Seymour Whyte to provide specialised construction services on the Hoddle Street Intersection Streamlining project, part of the key infrastructure program set underway by the State Government.
The scope of works included the installation of 1,500 lineal metres of near surface mounted carbon fibre laminate to strengthen the bridge decks over the Eastern Freeway and Alexander Parade and the application of 5,000m2 of bridge deck torch applied waterproof membrane.
Highlights
- A number of technical challenges presented themselves, which were resolved on site in consultation with VicRoads and not surprisingly the Melbourne weather also contributed to the project’s list of challenges.
- Due to the tight timeframe, the carbon fibre and waterproofing works were works were safely and successfully undertaken by duringDuratec in a continuous day and night operation over a six day full closure of the Hoddle Street Bridge.
