Duratec was engaged by Building Management and Works to install a complete watertight membrane system to resolve waterproofing issues on Level 6 balcony.

Central Law Courts is a multi-level District Court Building in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The existing waterproof coating and bitumen membrane had debonded and blistered. Water had migrated through the membrane via cracks and punctures due to lack of adhesion and poorly applied waterproofing patch repairs.
The first task was to remove existing paving slabs and completely remove the existing failing membrane system down to the concrete surface.
A new concrete screed was poured in place with falls to the storm water drains and allowed to cure before the application of high performance synthetic rubber based membrane, designed to offer waterproofing to areas subjected to permanent immersion and internal pedestrian traffic.
The concrete pavers were then reinstated on adjustable buzons.
Highlights
- 80 tonne crane with street closures was used to remove the existing topping material from the building roof.
- Noisy works were required to be performed outside of business hours and on weekends to minimise the disruption to law courts.
- The waterproofing membrane is high in permanent elongation to accommodate thermal and structural movement.
- Works performed in high security without affecting facility operations.
