Duratec was engaged by Downer Group to complete
protective floor coatings to six concrete pads at the BHP Newman mine site.

Details

The scope included protective coating using Cementaid on concrete pedestals in the brine building and an Epigen flooring system on two electro chlorination bunds.

Prior to coating application, a number of crack, defects and bug holes were observed in the existing concrete pads in the bunds and brine building, which were treated using appropriate crack repair methodology and products.

The project ran through 35 shift periods over three mobilisations:

Mobilisation 1 – protective coating to two EC bunds and brine building.

Moblisation 2 – defect and crack investigation on existing concrete pads.

Mobilisation 3 – completed protective coatings on two EC bunds and brine building along with additional crack/defect repairs.

Highlights

  • High standards of quality assurance and documentation maintained throughout the project.
  • No lost time injuries or medically treated injuries were incurred during the performance of the works.
  • The cracks and defects found on the concrete bunds were investigated and quick repair methodologies and TQ’s were proposed and actioned for treatment prior to protective floor coating application.

Capabilities

  • High Performance Coatings
