Duratec has successfully completed Phase One enabling works on an Under Harbour Tunnel (UHT) in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
Duratec was engaged to deliver preparatory engineering support and electrical works, as well as some initial structure remediation as part of Phase One. Completion of this enabling scope will allow comprehensive concrete remediation works — Phase Two — to commence from June 2026.
Phase One works included:
- Environmental control measures
- Electrical and power system upgrades
- Installation of temporary support infrastructure
- Access and preparatory works
- Initial concrete and steel structural remediation
Phase Two will comprise extensive concrete remediation works delivered over a two‑year period, to ensure continuity of operations while safely delivering the works.
Nathan Barrett, Pilbara East Area Manager at Duratec, said the completion of Phase One was a key milestone for the project.
“We’re pleased to be collaborating once again with BHP to support the ongoing performance of this important port infrastructure,” Mr Barrett said.
“Completing the first phase of works has laid the foundations for a major remediation program that will ensure the Under Harbour Tunnel continues to safely support iron ore production well into the future.
“I’m proud that all works to date have been delivered safely and to a high standard, and we look forward to commencing Phase Two later this year.”
