Meet Brian Sims
What led you to a career at Duratec?
“I was fortunate to start my journey with Duratec when it was founded in 2010, based out of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields. With exposure to civil, industrial coatings, and mechanical works in the mining industry this was a rare opportunity for a young worker.”
How does your role safeguard and extend asset and infrastructure?
“I’ve been fortunate to grow with Duratec’s opportunities and resulting capabilities. This exposure has given me the tools and knowledge to support our clients as a turnkey contractor in the mining and energy sectors.”
What’s your biggest professional achievement and why?
“I’ve recently become Duratec’s Goldfields Area Manager in Kalgoorlie. This position enables me to play a key role in the growth and retention of our operational and corporate workforce across the Goldfields. I’m keen to build on our service offering to current and future clients as we strengthen our presence in this region.”
What do you enjoy most about working at Duratec?
“I believe the culture is what’s special about Duratec. Across all the divisions I have worked with, from the tools through to management, I have never been able to replicate this mate ship with any other business.”
What have you learned during your time at Duratec / what has inspired you?
“I’ve been inspired to learn more than my initial trade, by becoming increasingly involved in helping clients fix their operational challenges. Being exposed to all steps from cathodic protection, painting, civils and specialty marine campaigns is a unique opportunity that only a handful of Australian businesses have access to.”
What advice would you give to someone starting out in their career?
“Always take the hardest job, nothing will mould your character, and sellable skill sets more than succeeding in the most difficult project you can find. “
