We are proud to lead the repair and restoration of Newcastle’s iconic Christ Church Cathedral, commencing January 2026
This comprehensive project will begin with access erection and roof repairs at the rear of the Cathedral, progressing counterclockwise around the structure. Works include scaffolding, replacement of 28 copper roofs, masonry restoration, internal church works, and final certification, with completion scheduled for 2027.
To minimise disruption, a tailored access strategy will maintain safe pedestrian and vehicle movement, keep the site clean and secure, and ensure the Cathedral remains operational for major events like Christmas and Easter.
Heritage preservation is at the heart of this project. Approved under a Section 60 permit from the City of Newcastle, all works comply with the Heritage Act and Australian Standards. Our methodologies are reviewed by our heritage architect to align with the Burra Charter principles, and trusted specialist trades will ensure the Cathedral’s significance is respected.
With over 15 years of heritage remediation experience, we bring proven expertise from landmark projects including Adelaide Town Hall, Fernleigh Tunnel, and The National Carillon. Our established project controls will manage complexities such as live environments and specialist procurement.
This is truly a local effort. Our Newcastle based team, supported by regional subcontractors, will deliver high-quality outcomes. Our familiarity with the Cathedral, gained through previous repair works and planning sessions, will enable a seamless restoration process.
In partnership with Newcastle Anglican and EJE Architects, we’re protecting a treasured piece of Newcastle history.
