Duratec secures wharf remediation contract at Gove in the Northern Territory

Duratec Limited, the construction, engineering and remediation company, has been awarded the Structural Integrity Remediation Services contract at Rio Tinto Gove – a bauxite mine and export facility in Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory.
The contract has been awarded under a construction MCSA, establishing a three‑year framework for the delivery of ongoing structural remediation works through to April 2029 across critical marine infrastructure at the Gove operation.
The initial scope of works will focus on remediation and structural strengthening of the wharf assets, including the access road cargo wharf, supporting the ongoing safe and reliable operation of export infrastructure.
Duratec will deliver a fully integrated scope including project management, engineering-led remediation and specialist construction services. The works will be undertaken in a live operational environment, requiring careful coordination to maintain ongoing site activities while ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
The project will be delivered in stages, progressing from mobilisation and specialist access installation through to targeted remediation works across prioritised areas, followed by final inspection and demobilisation.
Works commenced on site in June 2026, with completion of Phase 1 anticipated in late 2026.
Key elements of the scope include:
- Structural remediation of wharf infrastructure, including beams, piles and joints
- Corrosion repair and protection to extend asset service life
- Access installation and marine-based work fronts
- Specialist remediation works delivered within an operational environment
The delivery of works at Gove presents several logistical and environmental challenges, including the site’s remote location, marine exposure and seasonal weather conditions. Duratec’s experience operating in complex and constrained environments enables these challenges to be effectively managed, supported by strong safety systems and disciplined environmental controls.
